Lidia Lombard --UAC European Program Director & President "Familia" Foundation
Lidia was born in Bucharest, Romania and is a graduate of the University
of Bucharest. She holds a Master of Arts in specialization Romanian
and English languages. She is a US citizen, residing in North Miami
Beach, Florida since 1984. Lidia spends, collectively, more than six
months a year in Romania to oversee the UAC Child Protection Services
Program. She has been coordinating the Medical Aid and Relief Program
and also the Permanency Planning Program since 1991. Lidia has also
organized Children Programs in Bulgaria and Ukraine.
Throughout years of change in Romania, Lidia has always retained
the confidence of many governments and she is often asked to recommend
policies and practices to protect the rights of children, biological
parents and adoptive parents. Lidia is one of the four authors of
the specialty book entitled "Protection of Children in Difficulty" published
in Iasi, Romania in 1998 with the approval of the Romanian authorities.
She had meetings with the high officials of the Romanian government,
including the former presidents Ion Iliescu and Emil Constantinescu,
both in Romania and Washington, D.C.
On March 10, 2005 Lidia met the new elected President of Romania,
Traian Basescu, during the official reception offered by the Embassy
of Romania in Washington, D.C. in the honor of the Romanian President
at the Metropolitan Club.
Lidia is sociable and energized by contact with people. She is a
sensitive person who pays attention to details, thinks practically
and values facts and actual experience. She is modest, but we want
to tell you that she is a former Miss Romania and was very involved
in the high fashion industry in the United States before deciding
to dedicate her time and energy to all children in need. She likes
to say that " beauty comes from inside, just like an ocean tide".
